4th Annual Fall FUNdraiser
*Postponed until February*
It's that time of year, again! The nights are getting cooler, and everyone is settling into familiar routines. Traditionally, communities have always gathered to work together and celebrate the harvest! At Community Keepers, we have been blessed with a year of growth...in both accomplishments AND opportunities. Come celebrate the abundance of these changes at our 4th Annual Fall FUNdraiser, time and date to be announced.
We're doing things a little different this year...we're expanding the event to be family-friendly! One of the most popular bands in Chicagoland, Seventh Heaven will be performing an "All-Ages" show (click here for tickets). There will be baskets to be raffled....items to be auctioned...munchies and desserts to be shared, with a few surprises here and there. But, perhaps most of all, this is the opportunity for our "Community" to get together and share!
We are finalizing all of the details which will be posted on the website...and our Facebook page. Please check the website AFTER October 15th for that information.
We're also looking for help for one of our 'partner' organizations! The Robert Frost PTO (Parent-Teacher Organization) has initiated a 'Food for Kids' program to support children who rely on the School Lunch Programs for the majority of their meals. The goal of the program is to provide nutritious food for the kids on the weekends or holidays when they don't have access to the school meals program.
Information regarding this program is posted on our Facebook page. Donations of those requested items can be brought to the FUNdraiser or dropped off at the Robert Frost School (1308 Cypress Drive, Mt Prospect) between the hours of 8:30 - 4:30pm. Or financial donations can be made through the Community Keepers website.
Come join us and see what we've been up to! We've got lots of reasons to celebrate!

Attendees will explore themes, consider containers, learn how to design and display items....and add all of the finishing touches and flourishes that make gift baskets and gift boxes spectacular!
Materials will be provided by Community Keepers, but you are welcome to bring items to donate or materials to share! Photographs will be posted on the Community Keepers website and Facebook pages.
American food is in a state of crisis, but a movement to put good food back on the table is emerging. What began 30 years ago with chefs demanding better flavor, has inspired consumers to seek relationships with nearby farmers.
"Ingredients" is a seasonal exploration of the local food movement. On April 25th, Arlington Heights Memorial Library will be screening the film, which illustrates how people around the country are working to revitalize the connection to local food sources.
More information about the film is here: http://www.ingredientsfilm.com/
For more information on the screening please contact the Library here: http://www.ahml.info/node/add/contact-us

Plan on joining us and inviting your friends for a night of fun, prizes and surprises! Donation $10.
Greg Bruchert, an employee of Trader Joes, works late then gets up early to give back. Some time ago Greg rallied with friends and formed a group of community volunteers who are making a difference in our neighborhood. They are,”The Die Hard Crew;” serving Community Keepers the third Saturday of the month. They come from all directions and meet up to help those in need. Their strong bodies unload the Community Keepers food mobile. The Die Hard Crew lifts heavy potato and banana boxes. They bring laughter and loads of food down stairs to set up at a local Community Keepers food bank. Community Keepers is indebted to them for their hours of service during the spring and summer months. Watch out world, The Die Hard Crew is ready and willing to serve.
Plan on joining us and inviting your friends! It’s going to be a night of fun, laughter and celebrating all the life-blessing efforts of Community Keepers.

Growing Young – The Udds Serving Together
If you stop by the pantry at Christian Life Church you will find the hardest working young people you’ve ever seen. Warren and Carolyn Udd (80ish) volunteer as drivers for Community Keepers. This involves loading and unloading their vehicles each week. Warren picks up from restaurants who participate with Community Keepers. The restaurants find Warren keeps them grinning with his friendly smile and serving heart. While he is doing restaurant pick ups, his lovely other half, Carolyn, is loading up at Jewel Food Stores. We all marvel at Carolyn’s ability to pack a caravan. The teenage Tetris players have nothing on her. Both Carolyn and Warren have a system which cannot be beat. They school us with an incredible work ethic and consistent (rain, shine, snow or sleet) community service.
What’s new with Community Keepers
What’s big and white and zooms all over the Northwest Suburbs? That’s right, Community Keepers has a new vehicle for our mobile food pantry. It drove into service May 9,2015. So far it has carried over 8-10 tons of food to the food pantries Community Keepers services. There have been several days it has been loaded and unloaded three times. Thank you for your donations and for participating in our annual fund raiser to make the van a reality. It is with your help we make a difference one life at a time.
Second Annual Fundraising Dinner was a success!
Thank you to everyone who was involved in the September 27,2014 Fundraising Dinner. We hosted approximately 125 people and enjoyed a fabulous dinner. There were over fifty items in our silent auction that were all auctioned off, along with many door prizes. Diane was a wonderful host and MC for the event, which made the evening very exciting!
Your generosity helped us raise over $6,500 to go towards feeding families in the northwest suburbs of Chicago. We are privileged to serve you and your community by gleaning, which is a form of food rescue, that helps families in need.
